Obituary
Mildred G. Harris, age 97, passed away in Wichita, Kansas December 18, 2015 after a short illness. Mrs. Harris was born November 4, 1918 in Kansas City, MO to Marguerite and Robert T. Lyon. She was preceded in death by an older sister, Geraldine Simpson of Torrance, California and a younger brother, Robert T. Lyon, Jr., Lowry City, Missouri. Mildredís father passed away when she was a young child and her mother, Marguerite (Lyon) Haverland, passed away in 1956. After her fatherís death, she and her mother, brother and sister lived with their aunt Pearl and uncle Elmer Cooper in Lowry City, MO. A loving stepfather of many years was Calvin Haverland who passed away in 1975.

Mrs. Harris was an early member of the Lowry City Methodist Church. She attended Lowry City schools for ten years and then graduated with honors after two years from Clinton, Missouri High School. She worked briefly in Kansas City and then worked as a clerk in the Lowry City Post Office from 1937-1940. In 1940 she married Elza T. Harris and they enjoyed over 70 years together. Prior to his death on March 22, 2010. Mrs. Harris and her husband moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1941 where they raised two sons, Sam of Fort Worth, Texas and Richard T. of Wichita, Kansas. Mildred was a dedicated mother and homemaker and she also worked for several years as an Administrative Assistant at Wichita High School North. She was a long standing member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Wichita where she was an office holder and participant in many activities. Mildred was a talented piano player from an early age and often enjoyed playing at home and during church services and activities.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her two sons, two granddaughters, Victoria Harris, Fort Worth, Texas and Theresa McCaslin, Allen, Texas and two great grandsons, Andrew McCaslin, 14, and Nicholas McCaslin, 11. She is also survived by a niece, Sue Gaetani, Torrance, California, nephew, John Simpson, Euless, Texas and nephew Robert T. Lyon, Lowry City, Missouri.
