Maretta Lucille Richter Collins was born April 4, 1916 on the family farm in Harrison County, Missouri to James George and Ruth Eva Vosburgh Richter. She stepped into Heaven the evening of July 6, 2015 at her granddaughter‘s home in El Dorado Springs, Missouri where she had resided for the past 18 months.
She graduated from Gilman City High School in 1934. On August 11, 1935 she married Nolan Edgar Collins at Napoleon, MO. She lost her husband of 59 years on October 10, 1994. To this union two sons were born, Randall Lee and Larry Nolan, both who also preceded her in death.
Virgil Postlewait baptized Maretta and her two sons in 1952 in the Osage River near Osceola. She attended Cook’s Chapel Church of God (Holiness) and Blue Ridge Church of God (Holiness) as long as her health permitted. Brother James Coleman looked in on her at home to continue guiding her in her faith after she was no longer able to attend regular services.
Maretta was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Richter; her husband, Nolan Collins; her sons, Randall Lee Collins and Larry Nolan Collins; a daughter-in-law Elaine Collins; all her siblings, Francis Warner Richter, Edna Jane Richter Price, Charles Gordon Richter ,and George Randall Richter; a grandson, Randall Lee Collins Jr; a great granddaughter, Alexis Ann Collins.
She is survived by five granddaughters, Diana Hudson (David) and Bonnie Bowman, El Dorado Springs, MO; Donna Stewart, Nevada, MO; Dorothy Graves (Jason), Cole Camp, MO; Brenda Vandenberg, Springfield, MO; great grandchildren, Christopher Stewart (Donna), Willard, MO; D.J. Bowman (Ellen), Raytown, MO; Amanda Bowman, and Rylee Bowman, El Dorado Springs, MO; Jessica Allen, Sedalia, MO; Dorothy Jayne Graves, Cole Camp, MO and Brendan Vandenberg, Springfield, MO; Great great-grandchildren: Anakin, Bella, Erik, and Faora Stewart, a sister-in-law, Martha Richter, Wheeling, MO; several nieces including Doris Faye Price Pickering, Albany, MO; Venita Kelley, Peculiar, MO; a nephew, Russell Richter, Wheeling, MO; and four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by cousins and a church family.
