Obituary
Otha was a true man with a way of kindness, love and respect for all whos lives he touched. Otha Junior Harper O J 83 passed away June 19, 2013 at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City, MO. Otha Junior Harper was born in Harper, Missouri on Nov. 6, 1929. He was the son of Robert and Eula Harper. He was united in Marriage to Virginia McLarry on Sept. 29, 1950. O J was a member of Second Presbyterian Church where he served for many years as an usher and a Sunday School teacher. During the Korean War, he served in Korea with his brother Lesly. He was awarded a Korean service medal and 3 bronze stars. OJ was a faithful employee of the Layne Western Company. He retired after 52 years of service and continued on as a consultant after his retirement. He drilled the test holes for the Saint Louis Arch and Truman Dam as well as many other local projects. O J was happiest when he was outdoors, whether it was tending his rose garden, sailing, or fishing. Although he lived in Kansas City for many years, his first love was life on his farm. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Virginia I. Harper and son Michael (Judy) of Kansas City, and his beloved Grandaughters, Kari and Marci. He also leaves 2 brothers, Leroy and Paul (Marolyn) and 2 sisters, Zelpha and Opal (Claude) and many nieces and nephews, and his little dog Rosa, who was his constant companion after his stroke.
