Dennis Gene Durnell was born April 29, 1940 to E. A. & Vivian Durnell in Holyoak Colorado. They moved soon after and he grew up on the home farm place in Weaubleau Missouri and loved the farm life. He graduated from high school in Weaubleau Mo in 1959. He was married to Trish Thompson, officiated by Rev. Kent Parson in the Congregational Christian church on May 12, 1962 in Weaubleau Mo. He passed away at his home in Osceola Missouri on June 9, 2013 with his family at his side.
Shortly after his marriage to Trisha, they moved to Kansas City to start their life together. He was employed in a paint store where he learned his trade working in the industry of glass. He moved his career to working and managing with Postlewait Glass Company, Safelite Glass Company and retired from Kryger Glass Company in 2005. He played at Walmart in his retirement years. While living in Independence Missouri, daughter Pamela Yvette and son Kevin Wayne were born into the family. Son Michael Gene and daughter Vivia Louise were born into the family while living in Pleasant Hill Missouri. The majority of his later life was spent in Peculiar Missouri and then he retired in Osceola Missouri.
Dennis spent many years ministering to the younger generation with his wife at childrenís church and Sunday school but his greatest love was leading worship in songs and singing to his Lord. He was a godly husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was devoted to the widow ministry, and was always present with a helping hand. His hobbies included woodworking, which many of you now hold within your homes today. He enjoyed camping and canoeing with his family and friends, especially his adored and cherished grandchildren, and the treasured foster grandchildren who quickly grew to claim him as their grandpa. He was an avid gardener and being outdoors was his comfort and second home. He has been an accountable and respected friend and mentor to many. He loved the fellowship and the playing of games with his friends.
Dennis lived a productive life centered on his family and his faith in God. He always placed anotherís needs before his own, giving of his time and talents before a need was even expressed. He knew how to love unconditionally and to forgive before being asked. He never knew a stranger and impacted the lives of all who crossed his path. He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed by all. His character, legacy, and presence will stand strong for generations to come. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Darrel Durnell, 1 sister Helen Hogsett, and one niece Debbie Storrie.
